Many artists immerse themselves in their craft as early as childhood, but Colombian illustrator Andres Colmenares started his artistic journey later on in life.
“I started in 2009,” he told Bored Panda. “I arrived at Miami in 2008 to go to college, but at the time I didn’t know anyone there, so I started illustrating as a hobby. It became an obsession.”
Andres said that he likes exploring funny things that other people can relate to. That being said, he is constantly searching for original subjects and objects for his comics.
“It’s weird, but sometimes my work offends people,” the artist added. “I’ve done illustrations with references to religion or politics, and it got intense. So I just avoid both. They’re not my favorite subjects either way, haha.”
When asked why he thinks Wawawiwa comics attract so much attention, Andres remained humble. “I really don’t know, I guess people enjoy things that give them some kind of escape from reality and that’s what I try to do with Wawawiwa, create a space where people can have a great time and forget about their issues.”
