Otrivine Extra Dual Relief Nasal Spray

Otrivine Extra Dual Relief Nasal spray is a combination nasal spray that contains two different medicines to relieve your nasal symptoms. The ipratropium bromide helps to clear out excess mucus and the xylometazoline hydrochloride helps to unblock your nose.

How Otrivine Extra Dual Relief Nasal Spray work?

Xylometazoline hydrochloride (0.5 mg/ml)

  • Reduces the diameter of blood vessels in the nose to reduce nasal mucosal swelling
  • Has a decongestant effect
  • Fast-effect usually obtained after 5-10 minutes and lasts for 6-8 hours

Ipratropium bromide (0.6 mg/ml)

  • Reduces nasal mucus secretion
  • Fast-effect usually obtained within 15 minutes and lasts for an average of 6 hours

How to use

How to use Otrivine Extra Dual Relief Nasal Spray

  • One puff in each nostril up to 3 times per day
  • Leave at least 6 hours between doses
  • Not more than 3 applications daily into each nostril
  • The product should not be used for more than 7 days
  • Always blow your nose before using the nasal spray
  • Remove the dust cap
  • Do not cut the nozzle. The metered dose spray is ready to prime before use
  • Before the first application, prime the pump by pumping 4 times. Once primed the pump will normally remain charged throughout regular daily treatment periods.
  • Should the spray not be ejected during the full actuation stroke, the pump will need to be reprimed with 4 pumps
  • Hold the bottle upright
  • Bend your head slightly forward
  • Close one nostril by placing your finger against the side of your nose and insert the spray tip into the other nostril. Press the pump quickly while inhaling through the nose
  • Repeat this procedure in the other nostril

Warnings / Caution

Contraindications:

 Children and adolescents under 18 years. Known hypersensitivity to xylometazoline hydrochloride or ipratropium bromide or any excipients or hypersensitivity to atropine or similar substances. Patients with glaucoma or rhinitis sicca or following trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy or surgery exposing the dura mater.

Warnings and precautions:

Use with caution in people with: hypertension, cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder stenosis, pheochromocytoma, angle closure glaucoma, epistaxis, paralytic ileus, cystic fibrosis. Caution in people sensitive to adrenergic substances, which may cause sleep disturbances, dizziness, tremor, cardiac arrythmias or elevated blood pressure. Hypersensitivity reactions may occur.

Do not use for more than 7 days.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly necessary. Avoid contact with eyes

Side effects:

See SPC for full details. Hypersensitivity reactions (including angioedema, urticaria and bronchospasm). Localised irritation in the nose and throat, nausea, headache and dryness of the nasal mucosa. Systemic cardiovascular effects should be kept in mind in those with cardiovascular disease. In isolated cases, systemic allergic reactions, insomnia, fatigue, urine retention and transient visual disturbances
