Oilatum Junior Eczema and Dry Skin Emollient Bath Additive contains light liquid paraffin and has been specially developed to produce a soothing milky bath to treat eczema and dry skin in children and babies.
Oilatum Junior forms an emollient film on the skin surface to reduce moisture loss, to soothe, soften and rehydrate
the skin. It also cleanses the skin so soaps are not needed.
An emollient is a medical moisturising product, which rehydrates dry skin and helps restore its natural defences. Emollients keep water in and irritants out by creating a protective layer on the skin, allowing skin cells to rehydrate and restore the skin barrier. Emollients moisturise and soothe, ease itching and soften cracks in the skin, and when used correctly can greatly reduce the symptoms of atopic eczema.
Complete emollient therapy simply means using a combination of emollients in a daily skincare routine to wash and moisturise, helping to provide optimal benefit. Children and adults with atopic eczema should bathe or shower at least once per day, using an emollient product rather than a soap-based one. An emollient cream should be applied immediately after washing and throughout the day to make sure the skin stays moisturised.
Emollients should be used in large quantities, applied over the whole body.
For generalised eczema, NICE guidance recommends use of 250–500 grams of leave-on emollient per week.
It’s really important to keep using emollients even when the skin is not in a flare
Oilatum Junior may be used as frequently as necessary. Oilatum Junior should always be used with water, either added to the water or applied to wet skin.
For adults add 1-3 capfuls to an 8 inch bath of water. Soak for 10-20 minutes. Pat dry.
For infants, add ½-2 capfuls to a basin of water. Apply gently over entire body with a sponge. Pat dry.
The parent or caregiver should use care to avoid slipping in the bath. If a rash or skin irritation should occur, stop using the product and consult your doctor.
Oilatum Junior should be used with caution in patients with a known sensitivity or allergy to light liquid paraffin (LLP) or to any of the excipients in the preparation.
