Micralax Micro Enema, Pack of 12 x 5ml

When it comes to constipation, Micralax Enema is a family-friendly solution that can work quickly to soften stools and help get things moving again. With just a few simple minutes of use of the enema, Micralax can provide relief and get you back on track.

Micralax micro enema is a type of laxative that works to draw extra water into your stool. The active ingredients in this medicine are sodium citrate and alkylsulphoacetate, which act together as they exit through the  anus after being used by you It is then much easier to empty your bowels.

Benefits of Micralax enema:

  • Treat constipation especially in bedridden patients, the elderly, children, women giving birth or those deliberately not passing stools
  • Empty your bowels before an X-ray or other examination.

What is an enema?

Micralax is an enema. An enema is an injection of liquid into your back passage (anus) which makes your bowels easy to empty.

  • Micralax usually works within 5 to 15 minutes, so make sure you are near a toilet before using it
  • Always use a fresh tube of Micralax every time.
  • The usual dose is one tube.

Micralax is a type of laxative. The disposable applicator is inserted into the anus and the 5ml liquid is gently squeezed into the back passage. This causes water to be drawn into the lower bowels and results in more water in the stools meaning they are softer and easier to pass.

Remember: if after a few days of treatment you are still constipated, you must see your doctor.

You should not use laxatives for a long time.

What is constipation?

Normal and regular bowel movement is important for most people. However, what is “normal and regular” varies from person to person. Some may have a bowel movement every day, others less often. Whatever it is like for you, it is best that your bowel movement has a regular pattern.

  • Constipation is an occasional problem for some people. For others, it may happen more often
  • It happens when the normal muscle actions in the bowel (large intestine) slow down. This can mean that material is not easily eliminated from the body

The cause of constipation is often not known. It can be associated with:

  • Sudden change of diet
  • A diet with not enough fibre
  • Not drinking enough fluids
  • Loss of ‘tone’ of the bowel muscles in older people
  • Pregnancy
  • Medicines such as morphine or codeine
  • Having to stay in bed for a long time
  • Lack of exercise

Symptoms of constipation

Being constipated can mean you’re not feeling quite like yourself, it can have a number of symptoms from stomach ache, feeling bloated, feeling sick or even losing your appetite.

Whatever the cause, constipation can be uncomfortable. It may make you feel bloated and heavy or generally “off colour”. Sometimes it causes headaches.

It is recommended to use changes in diet and bulk-forming medicines to control constipation before using this medicine.

These healthy tips are recommended to try to prevent constipation happening:

  • Eat a balanced diet including fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Drink enough water so that you do not become dehydrated
  • Keep up your exercise and stay fit
  • Make time to empty your bowels when your body tells you
