What is Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream (HC cream)?

Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream, or HC cream, is a treatment for athlete’s foot and fungal sweat rashes. It targets the fungi and bacteria that cause the infection while working to soothe inflammation and relieve swelling and itching. If you’re suffering from a fungal skin infection and need fast and effective treatment, Canesten HC Cream can help.

What are Fungal Infections?

Fungal infections are very common and affect many people.
Two of the most common fungal skin infections include athlete’s foot and sweat rash.
There are two main types of fungal infection:
• The tinea group, also known as dermatophytes.
• The candida group, also known as yeasts.

The tinea group includes athlete’s foot which is easily spread by contact. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot usually lives harmlessly on our skin and in our environment.
The natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as damp moist conditions.
This could happen, for example, through regularly wearing training shoes that keep the feet hot and sweaty. Since this fungus is contagious, it can also often be picked up in changing rooms. The main symptom is an itchy, scaly and irritating rash.

Athlete’s Foot

You don’t have to be an athlete to catch it – athlete’s foot can affect anyone!

Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) is a fungal infection that affects the skin on your feet. This foot fungus thrives in warm and moist environments and commonly occurs in people whose feet have become very sweaty while confined within tightfitting shoes or trainers. Athlete’s foot is highly contagious and is often spread in public changing rooms, showers and swimming pools. An athlete’s foot infection usually occurs between your toes, but it can also affect the soles and sides of your feet.

Athlete’s foot symptoms

You might have athlete’s foot if you notice:

  • Burning or itchy feet and toes
  •  Scaly, very dry, cracked or peeling feet
  • A foot rash on your feet or between your toes
  • Softening or whitening of the skin between your toes
  • Cracked skin between your toes or on the soles or heels
  • Smelly feet

Who is at risk of getting athlete’s foot?

Athlete’s foot is very common and up to 7 in 10 people may suffer from it at some point in their lives. It got its name because it affects people whose feet tend to be damp and sweaty, which is often the case with athletes. However, anyone can get this infection. You are more likely to get it if:

  • The skin on your feet is damaged.
  • You walk barefoot in common areas, like gyms, swimming pools, communal showers and changing rooms.
  • You frequently have sweaty feet,or you suffer from hyperhidrosis (excessive seating). This foot fungus thrives in warm, moist and sweaty conditions.
  • You wear tight, closed-toe shoes that make your feet hot and sweaty.
  • You have a weakened immune system.

The candida group can be responsible for conditions such as sweat rash. Sweat rash can appear anywhere on the body, but is more likely to occur where folds of skin rub against each other, such as: under the breasts, under arms, around the groin and on the back. Candida is a yeast-like fungus that usually lives harmlessly on our skin. However, the natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as sweating, tight or synthetic clothing and cosmetic preparations such as bath additives.
When levels of the yeast increase, the skin can develop the following symptoms: persistent burning and itching, soreness and a variety of patches or blemishes as well as a softened and soggy appearance
